A little about me

I’m Bethy.

My name is Bethy, pronounced Betty. I’m originally from France, where there is no “th” sound! I’ve lived in England for half of my life, swapping the South of France sunshine for Yorkshire clouds and lovely people.

I am a BACP-accredited psychotherapist and counsellor, offering therapy to adults and children aged 6+.

My work is rooted in the person-centred approach, where empathy, acceptance and a non-judgemental understanding are at the heart of our relationship.

You lead the process. Together, we can make space for hurt, clarify feelings and thoughts, consider decisions that feel true to who you are, and begin to connect the dots of your life.

With children, play can be the language that helps their stories unfold, especially when feelings are hard to put into words.

Children (6+)

A safe space for children to explore, express and grow.

Play therapy helps children find their own ways to tell their stories.

Adults

Support through life’s challenges, relationships, changes and self-discovery.

Time and space for feelings that deserve to be heard.

In person & online

At The Yoga Space in Horsforth, or online via Teleo for children (6+) and Google Meet for adults.

My approach

Person-centred, empathetic and non-judgemental.

Informed by Polyvagal Theory and Compassion-Focused Therapy.

My journey

I have lived in England for half my life, and I bring both my French roots and my experiences as a parent of two adult children who are AuDHD to my work.

I understand how challenging it can be when education systems do not always welcome different ways of thinking, learning, communicating and being.

My aim is to offer an inclusive, compassionate space where all parts of who you are can feel welcome.

How I work

Therapy, at your pace.

You are the expert on your own life. I will listen with empathy and without judgement, following your lead rather than imposing an agenda. I believe therapy is not about telling you who to be, but helping you hear yourself more clearly and find your way forward.

For children & families

For children, play can offer a way to explore feelings and experiences when words are hard to find. My work is grounded in relationship, emotional safety and respect for each child’s individuality.

Parents and carers are welcome to enquire about whether my service may be appropriate for their child.

Who I am

My name is Bethy Richardson and I provide therapy through BethyTherapy. I pay the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) data protection fee. For privacy questions, email bethytherapy@gmail.com.

What information I may handle

If you email me, I will handle the contact details and the information you choose to include so I can respond. If you arrange therapy, I may also handle relevant contact and appointment details, payment records, consent and safeguarding information, and therapy notes. These records may include sensitive information about a person's health or personal circumstances. Where I work with a child, I may also need to handle relevant information about the child and parent or guardian.

Why I use information

I use information to respond to enquiries, discuss whether therapy may be suitable, arrange and provide sessions, keep appropriate professional records, manage payments, and meet applicable legal, safeguarding and professional responsibilities. I process personal information on the applicable lawful basis for each purpose, and handle health and other special-category information only where an additional UK GDPR condition applies. The precise lawful bases and conditions should be documented in my data protection records and explained to clients where required.

Online sessions and sharing

Online sessions are planned to use Teleo for children and Google Meet for adults. These providers may process information as part of delivering their services. I use these services to support online sessions. Their own privacy terms also apply to information they process. I take account of the relevant security, data-processing and international-transfer arrangements when using them. I do not sell clients' personal information. Information may be shared where required by law or where a relevant safeguarding or serious-risk concern makes sharing necessary and appropriate. I will explain confidentiality and its limits as part of the therapy agreement.

How information is stored and how long it is kept

I take data protection and the secure handling of therapy notes seriously. Adult therapy records are retained for seven years after the final session. Children’s therapy records are retained until the child reaches 25. Other records, such as enquiry emails and financial records, are retained only for as long as needed for their purpose and any applicable legal requirements. Records are stored securely and securely disposed of when no longer needed.

Your data protection rights

You may have rights to access, correct, erase or restrict the use of your personal information, or other rights under data protection law. These rights depend on the circumstances and may be subject to legal exceptions. To ask a question or make a request, email bethytherapy@gmail.com. You can also raise a concern with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
